My paintings are like daydreams. Strokes of grace, doubt, love, and risk are engineered to find the elusive “self” of each work. Through vigorous working of a plastered surface, layers of paint activity are added and removed. My symbols and gestures repeat. Latticework and weblike structures, abstract remnants of architecture and still life, and luxurious squiggles and loops hover in undefined space. What evolves are imagined landscapes; windows that obscure, fragment, and reveal the enchantment that lies beyond.

My sculpture is built of wood and metal and cast with plaster and concrete. Many layers have been sanded, rubbed, and removed. I age them to look as if they have withstood the elements of a graveyard, or extracted from the rain of ash in Pompeii. They are shrines, monuments, and objects of devotion. Embedded with small personal objects, they are imbued with joy, memory, and discomfort. I make them with the intention to protect, shelter, and honor what we experience in our human form, and also as timeless artifacts that can carry the soul further.
